Introducing Hannah Tooke
As a part of our Winter Art Trail, we’d like to introduce you to the artists that produced the wonderful artwork for the trail. In the Artist Spotlight today, we have Hannah Tooke, inspiring a love of colour and texture through her joyful collaged scenes.
Hannah is an artist and illustrator working with collage, cut paper and mixed media, working from her home studio in a village just outside of Ipswich. She found her love of collage whilst studying for her degree in Illustration, returning to university in her mid 30’s after a change in working circumstances; a fine art tutor at college years previously suggested she go into illustration, but had initially worked in the photographic industry. Illustration kept calling though!
Inspirations are very broad, they include travels, nature, childhood books and memories, the eternal child within, texture and pattern, places and spaces, plus the beautiful colour and cut outs of Henri Matisse, the jazz and New York inspired work of Stuart Davis plus mid-century art and design.
Hannah is currently developing her portfolio for the children’s publishing industry, designed and painted a couple of public murals, led some children’s and drawing workshops and is exhibiting her work in local exhibitions and makers markets.
To see Hannah’s contribution to Stowmarket’s Winter Art Trail, you’ll find it in MIX’s shopfront window, which is across the street from The Regal Cinema! The Winter Art Trail runs until January 15th 2022 and trail maps are available from Fox Yard Studio. After that, all the artwork on the trail will be displayed at the new arts bar next door, Pallet. You can also find a range of Hannah Tooke’s prints available to be purchased at Fox Yard Studio.

The piece created for The Winter Art Trail was inspired by childhood Christmases, cosy winter nights and the eternal hope for snow at Christmas!
